Best Day Trips Near St. George
St. George is in a perfect location to take a day trip to some of our favorite places. Here are some of our favorite trips within a few hours of Stg that we love to visit!
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Overview
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located in Kanab, Utah, and is a great destination for animal lovers who want to see some animals or do some community service and help Best Friends’ mission to “Save Them All”. At the sanctuary, you can take dogs for walks, hang out with some cool cats, or help take care of some more unusual pets like pigs and horses.
You can spend your time here doing the tours that they offer at the sanctuary or my personal favorite volunteering to help the animals. Volunteering gives you a full day of hands work with the animals and the staff that work there so you can give back and spend time with some really awesome animals.

Zion National Park
Overview
Of Course, you know Zion National Park but you can’t have a top list without mentioning one of the most beautiful sights you can find in Southern Utah. This park has trails for all levels of hikers from easy trails like Weeping Rock to the famous and strenuous Angels Landing all visitors are welcome.
Zion gets over 4.3 million visitors a year so it is often busy but the best part of living so close to this park is being able to go on off days during the week instead of visiting on the packed weekend. I like to visit on Tuesdays as I found that the parks are usually pretty empty on those days and it sometimes feels like I have the whole place to myself!

Peek A Boo Gulch
Contribution: G. Thomas at English Wikipedia / Public domain
Overview
Slot canyons are a staple of southern Utah and one of the coolest ones I’ve been to is Peek a Boo Gulch. Located in Escalante this moderate hike is great for people who want to explore some cool canyons without some of the strenuous activities that usually come with it.
Peek A Boo can be combined with another trail called Spooky Gulch to make this hike into an exciting round trip. However, going this direction does require a bit of scrambling so be sure to be prepared if you want to go this route!
