Jane’s Beginner slow scramble up the old route – I haven’t used if for a couple of years. Participants need some experience in scrambling for this event.
There’s a waitlist, READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and answer the question at the end.
SCRAMBLING is ROCK CLIMBING without ropes
Fill out your profile with recent experience in strenuous outdoor physical exercise – rock scrambling, running, cycling, whatever.
It’s going to be getting toward dark, so we can’t go extremely slow for anyone out of shape, don’t sign up if you aren’t fit enough to climb 3 long flights of stairs without stopping.
Short: about 1.5-2 miles total at most (likely less, but up a mountain)
Elevation gain – about 100 flights of stairs for those who don’t understand 1000 vertical feet of elevation gain. It’s not one long, unrelenting climb, it’s up the rock and look around, up again, etc. And we come back down.
rate scale 2 to 3.4 of 5 for difficulty of climbing (easy scrambling)
You’ll use your hands to help balance and climb in some places, mostly walking up a very steep hill on uneven rock, sometimes loose rock and sand (scree).
I plan to be done in about 2 hours, but can’t guarantee this, we don’t leave anyone behind.
Anyone excessively slow on the 1/4 mile walk over will not be allowed to continue for the safety of the whole group, it’s going to be a little hot yet so we won’t want to be out in the afternoon sun for too long.
Everyone starts on the wait list. About 14, max.
IF YOU HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE IN ROCK SCRAMBLING YOU CANNOT GO. Not kidding, don’t sign up. Fill out your profile with recent experience, the last 6 months is what I need to know about.
This event will be slow-paced, with short rest breaks to admire the scenery and get acquainted with each other.
It’s meant for the new scramblers who just finished Beginner Skills and haven’t done much scrambling.
I will provide climbing technique and hand-foot placement suggestions for those who need a bit of help.
This event prerequisite is my “Jane’s Beginner Skills” event or equivalent documented experience.
Please read the entire description. Everyone must answer the question at the very end. There is a wait list so I can try to ascertain that people have experience and fitness to hike and climb.
Some flexibility and upper body strength is useful, necessary.
NO DOGS and NO KIDS, NO GUESTS
BRING WATER & a small snack, it’s no help if it’s in your car. You must have a backpack (if you need to borrow one, please let me know via PM or as a comment. You also need approach or grippy closed shoes.
