Kraft Mountain Loop

Update: tomorrow is looking kind of ‘iffy’ for hiking the loop. We won’t hike down in the canyon or on sandstone when rain is happening, or soon after a rain, for obvious reasons – water in the canyon, slippery slopes, impasse, damage to the sandstone itself. 40% chance of rain. Will reassess at 1 p.m. tomorrow. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.1356&lon=-115.4268#.YV9PtbhKjcd

Gym day workout!

Kraft Mountain loop is a 3.2 mile loop circumventing Kraft Mountain w/ 584 ft. elevation gain. The scenery is just breath taking, every time.

The trail is rated as moderate, because of the steep elevation gain in short distance, varied stone/gravel/sand uneven path covering, and 3 or so short scramble areas in the ravine behind the mountain.

You must be able to climb down, support your weight to shuttle down boulders. The boulder areas are not complicated. Check our past Kraft hike for photos of the areas. There is also a photo album in our group that specifically provides photos of the areas we will climb down to provide you with opportunity to provide a self-assessment.

General info:
*pets are not allowed as boulder areas are not indicative for good pet safety
*wear proper hiking or all terrain shoes
*Gloves to protect your hands
*dress in layers. Your healthy core temperature depends entirely on the outdoor temps you are used to.
*always carry your ID, and emergency contact info. Stupid stuff does happen, rarely, but it does. Be safe. Be prepared.
