Kraft Mountain No-Route (Summer Short Version)

June 30 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am UTC-7

Summer Short Version: This particular scramble will be a 2.4 mile shortened version. Total elevation climb is about the same, but we’ll return directly from peak via west bowl to trail. The color of the day is: Fluorescent Green.

This will be a moderate paced hike up around and past the west side of Kraft Mountain on an indirect scrambling route to the peak. Exact route will be determined by group experience and whimsy, but this is definitely not a beginners hike. If you have issues with the first obstacle you should opt to turn back.

This route will include more class 3 areas where you will have to use hands and arms to help you climb. Expect a hike of about 2.1 miles with an elevation gain of nearly 1,162 feet to the peak at 4,681 feet. This hike is normally completed in about 3 hours, depending on how long we take for breaks or photos.

Hike: Kraft Mountain No-Route – Closed loop
Trail-head: Kraft Mt. Parking (at end of Sandstone Drive – unmarked)
Distance: 2.4 miles
Elevation gain: 1,162 feet
Elevation peak: 4,681 feet
Time: 3 hours
Difficulty: 3
Danger level: 3
Class: 3+
Children: No

You will need at least 2-3 liters of water in warm weather, snacks/lunch for the peak, sunscreen, hat/sunglasses, extra layers (depending on weather,) etc.

Please be aware that your Meetup organizers are not tour guides and are not park/BLM rangers. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would take if you were hiking alone.

In addition to the electronic liability waiver information above, on advice of counsel, I now require each hiker to sign a written liability waiver, which I will provide at the meetup location. If you are unwilling to provide me this waiver, please do not request to go on my hikes.

I try to always carry a Spot GEN3 emergency notification device on my hikes to get help in the shortest amount of time in the event of any emergency requiring SAR or medical help, even without cell or data cell phone coverage. I request that each hiker carry emergency instructions with them on each hike. This information should be easy to find in their packs and include their name, emergency contact person(s) and phone numbers and maybe even primary care physician and pertinent medical info like prescription medications being taken, allergies, etc.
