Kraft Mt. Loop has been a popular hike for a very long time. We loved to hate Hell Hill and later we enjoyed the “twist” that I added in place of Hell Hill. The route continued to evolve as Gaby and some others began climbing down the canyon into the wash instead of taking the established trail. But when David and Ian diverted from the canyon and through the drop slots it took a beginner scramble and made it advanced. I’m calling these slots the “psycho slots” until David and Ian come up with their own name.
After going through the three psycho slots, we’ll cross the wash and go through another slot that I call the “redemption slot.” We will still track the same route as the original Kraft Mt. Loop, but with the route evolution mentioned above. We’ll still end up in the wash like we used to. Then we’ll decide if we want to continue on the original Kraft Mt. Loop hike.
There are some nice views along this trail. It’s one of the few places that you can see four distinct colors of rocks in one place. I’ve seen a pair of foxes in this area and some bighorn sheep.
