Sandstone Scramble – Inside the Loop
September 29 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC-7
Please note, our articles may contain referral or affiliate links.
PLEASE NOTE THE VERY EARLY START TIME
***This is not a beginner scramble. It is longer than my typical routes. THERE ARE CLASS III and CLASS III+ obstacles on this route. If you are not sure what these are in this context, this route is not appropriate for you.***
For this route, we will carpool from South Tower Park **See below,** and people with park passes,
Helmets are always welcome. Be sure to use one that doesn’t block your sight. Always carry “in case of emergency” numbers with you.
Sandstone Quarry is home to several scrambling routes. Today we will wander, meander, squeeze through, climb up and experience some routes we don’t often take. Today’s agenda will include Calico Tanks
Peaks I & II. If we are so motivated, we can squeeze a modified Imagination Trench section in, too. Speed, size of the group and skill will dictate how many points of interest we get to.
There are some tight areas along the way, so be prepared to remove your pack. Also, please note that there are short sections of heavy brush that will scratch and poke you. If that bothers you, then you should wear protective clothing. This hike is almost entirely rock scrambling using your hands to pull yourself up and stabilize climbs.
There are many places that require intermediate scrambling skills. You must be able to pull your body weight up and lower yourself down using your arms. If you have a fear of tight spaces or heights, don’t sign up for this hike.
If I don’t know you or if I can’t determine your scrambling experience from your profile, then send me a note with details your scrambling experience. This is needed before you can be moved to the “going” list. Details means a description of the climbing you’ve done and the people you did it with.
No guests! Everyone must be a member of VegaHikers and on the “going” list. It just takes a couple of minutes to create a profile, and it’s FREE.
YOU MUST BE ON THE “GOING” LIST IN ORDER TO GO ON THIS HIKE. CRASHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
We’ll meet at South Tower Park and then carpool to the trailhead. Park passes or payment is required to enter the park, so if you have a pass, please bring it. South Tower Park is at the Intersection of Vista Center and Vista Park. To get there go west on Charleston from 215 towards the Red Rock. Turn right on Vista Center, take the second right at the traffic circle, then the first right into South Tower Park. There are restrooms and water fountains at the park.
