Seal Head ramble

October 4, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm UTC-7

Please note, our articles may contain referral or affiliate links.

As usual, if you don’t answer the question, or message me privately if I don’t know you, you will not go.

To sign up for the waitlist, you must read the entire hike description and answers the question asked when signing up. If you have a recent no show, then you’ll have to wait until the day of the hike to see if there’s room for you.
If you haven’t hiked with me before, message me privately and let me know your hiking experience. Please fill out your profile to make it easier on organizers to know what your experiences are and let other hikers know something about other members.

Helmets are welcome. Be sure to use one that doesn’t impede your sight.

Always carry “in case of emergency” contacts with you.
This will be a version of the basic beginning but we may wander around. No first timer or beginners. Metrics approximate.
You’ve probably seen the Sealhead many times. It’s very close and has a great view. We will be going to the Mothership through the Seal Head route to combine two great hikes. This is a scrambling, uphill climb the first third of the hike, with a couple cracks after the first half. We’ll take a quick break at that peak and then downhill scramble all the way, winding up in Ash Canyon. Sticky-soled shoes are a must, and hiking poles a NO.

This climb is super steep and will get your heart pounding. It’s pretty short, but it can be challenging for beginners. Don’t underestimate the hill or overestimate your ability. Scrambling is not the same as trail hiking.

You must be able to keep up with the group. If you can’t keep up on the first hill, you will have to turn back.

No guests will be allowed without my prior approval. Canceling two hours or less before the hike will be considered a “no show.” Please sign up when you know you can go. I’m working on Monday and can’t always check to see if you signed up an hour or two ahead of the hike.

We’ll be starting out at the Kraft Mt. trail head. To get to the trail head take Charleston out to the Calico Basin turnoff and follow the paved road, past the Red Springs parking area, all the way to the end of the road.
