Seal Head Rock Loop (Short Reverse Route)

October 12 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am UTC-7

Please note, our articles may contain referral or affiliate links.

Join us for an interesting scramble variation around the Seal Head Rock. This is a relatively short hike with a moderate pace with breaks as needed, but you must be able to hike at the speed of the group.

Color of the day is BLACK.

Not recommended for slow or timid scramblers. If you are not comfortable with the first obstacle, please stop and go back. This route has some exposure and is recommended only for those comfortable with class 3 scrambling (you will need to be able to ascend and descend with use of hands) and able to maintain a pace of at least 1 mph scrambling and 2 mph on trail.

We’ll start by heading towards Guardian Angel pass taking a less traveled route to Seal Head and then return back down along the Assisi ridge. Route variations are normal on my hikes.

Bring sufficient water for the conditions (2 liters should be sufficient in mild weather, 3 liters for hot days), snacks, sunscreen and a hat. Dress in layers for the weather forecast. Light colored cotton shirts are better for hot sunny weather. Sticky shoes are highly recommended.

Distance: 2 miles
Time: 2 hours or less
Elevation Gain: 825 feet Max.
Elevation: 4329 feet.
Difficulty: 3 of 5
Class: 3 (scrambling class)

Please be aware that your Meetup organizers are not tour guides and are not park/BLM rangers. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would take if you were hiking alone.

By signing up for this event, you affirm that you understand this disclaimer, and that you knowingly and voluntarily agree not to bring any type of claim arising out of or related to this Meetup event against the organizers of this Meetup group.

In addition to the electronic liability waiver information above, on advice of counsel, I now require each hiker to sign a written liability waiver, which I will provide at the meetup location. If you are unwilling to provide me this waiver, please do not request to go on my hikes.

I try to always carry a Spot GEN3 emergency notification device on my hikes to get help in the shortest amount of time in the event of any emergency requiring SAR or medical help, even without cell or data cell phone coverage. I request that each hiker carry emergency instructions with them on each hike. This information should be easy to find in their packs and include their name, emergency contact person(s) and phone numbers and maybe even primary care physician and pertinent medical info like prescription medications being taken, allergies, etc.
