This late afternoon walk is along an in-and-out trail across the open desert that highlights portions of Calico Basin. The 300 ft. gain and decline in elevation up and over a couple of hills allows for great views looking back towards Calico Basin and out towards Las Vegas. Eventually the trail merges with the Kraft Mountain Loop Trail in the northern end of Calico Basin. We’ll rest in the lower Natural Sandstone Living Room at the end of the trail before turning back. Those who would like a sip of wine or brew, and a bite to eat – meet at a nearby fav outdoor seating area/restaurant afterwards. Sundown is just prior to 8 p.m. +/- this time of year, and I like to time the walk with the sun just starting to slip behind Red Rock mountains to provide a little shade on the walk back.
I am an outdoor enthusiast who would rather be on a backcountry backpacking trip than a stroll on the beach (although I do love the beach!).
Living in Las Vegas has afforded me the opportunity to easily explore the Southwest region of the United States.
A nature lover, I am often found at the end of the pack taking photos and videos of the wildlife found on the trails. Colorful flowers, desert animals, and unusual geological rock formations are often the majority of my photos.
