Picotillo got its name from the Spanish word “pico,” meaning “peak,” as it was located near a prominent peak in the area.
The town was established due to the discovery of valuable minerals, primarily gold and silver, attracting miners and entrepreneurs alike. Over time, Picotillo grew as a result of the successful mining operations in the surrounding area.
