Reipetown Nevada History

Reipetown was founded by a group of prospectors who discovered rich deposits of silver in the area. The town was named after John Reipe, one of the prospectors who played a pivotal role in its establishment.

At its peak, Reipetown was a bustling community, attracting miners, merchants, and settlers from far and wide. However, as the silver deposits dwindled, so did the town’s fortunes, eventually transforming it into the ghost town we know today.

  • Late 1860s to early 1870s: The town experiences a boom in population and mining activity.
  • 1870s: Reipetown’s silver production begins to decline, leading to a decrease in population.

There is no record of a railroad serving Reipetown directly. However, the Nevada Northern Railway, established in 1905, connected the nearby town of Ely to the regional mining districts, indirectly serving Reipetown.
